The message draws attention to the idea of movement. We never feel ready, and in those moments when we think we are, we organize, redraw, and set new or different objectives. These reasons are plentiful except for the one that says, just do it. And while the draft can be conceptually abstract, it can also represent something real holding us back. Perfectionism is not always a friend. Moving beyond the self-imposed restrictions can be freeing. And, we learn from every draft we move forward.

I have struggled with perfectionism for as long as I can remember. I was the kid that colored inside the lines. Not because anyone told me to. Because I just couldn't let myself color outside the lines. Look, I had to write that 3 times... ;)

I love your honesty. Truthfully, I was the exact opposite, always coloring outside the lines. But, in those moments, it had to be perfect for me as well. When we decide to be imperfectly perfect, that opens something up. It allows us to be real.

JP I lurked for about 2 months on Substack before I got my publication going, but then I finally got it going. As I've found both in myself and in coaching others, so often we spend so much time stuck in "getting ready to get ready" mode, we stay there and never accomplish what we meant to do.

Glad you got your publication going as well. I also related very much to the business example. It's so true what you think is going to be a slam dunk sale isn't and you can only be so prepared.

There are many reasons why this happens, but ultimately it's like Nike's famous ad campaign. Ultimately you have to "just do it."

I agree Melanie. That “getting ready to get ready” trap is real. I’ve lived there longer than I’d like to admit. And you’re right about the sales piece too. The ones you’re sure about fall apart, and the messy ones close. Keeps you honest. At some point it just comes down to moving. Not perfect, not fully ready, just moving.

It feels like you didn’t just talk about delaying, you actually caught yourself doing it again and still chose to share it.

I wonder how often we know exactly what’s holding us back but still believe the “not ready” story anyway.
