I hit 54 and realized I was running on fumes. The job that once fired me up now drained me dry. High stress. Low joy. Zero meaning.

I wasn’t alone. I was one of millions of Gen Xers who built the internet economy, raised families, and somehow ended up watching younger people cash out while we kept clocking in.

But I wasn’t done. I was just done being stuck.

The Decision

So I stopped asking for permission. At 54, I decided to stop managing other people’s priorities and start documenting my own rebuild: live, messy, public.

I’m still working my 9 to 5 while I build this. The exit is the plan, not the premise.

That decision became the foundation for everything I do now: the essays, the videos, and the CTRL-ALT-REINVENT movement for Gen X builders taking back control of their second act.

I wanted equity in my own time. Freedom to travel with my wife in our camper. Work that belongs to us, not a corporation. A schedule I control.

Not retirement. Reinvention.
