JP, thanks for showing up and continuing to write "on time" despite a challenging start to your week. As you know we share this "building in the cracks" as you call it although my writing rhythm is different than yours.

Depending on when inspiration strikes and time permits (not always the same thing), I usually write my post for my Tuesday AM release the Thursday or Friday ahead and then look at it again and tweak it here and there to see if I can make it even better before publication.

I find that way, on the rare times when work days get too busy and I'm less inspired, I've got plenty of runway where it'll happen. Hope that helps you a little to know.

The important thing is making it happen and you do :)

Melanie, I appreciate this a lot. That’s a smart system, build the runway before the week starts swinging. Inspiration and available time rarely show up together, so there’s wisdom in using the windows when they appear.

And you’re right, the important thing is making it happen. Different rhythms, same mission. Thanks for sharing that.

I’m so glad that helped JP. 100% that inspiration and time rarely align.

Looking forward to more of your posts and maybe they’ll come about a little easier for you.

I'm sensing more and more personal story in your pieces and I like it a lot. This one also feels shorter than others, and that, I think, made the message louder to me. Appreciate another quality piece.

I really value that, Carl. You’ve been around long enough to notice the shifts, and I respect that. Funny enough, I actually started with short 400 to 500 word pieces. Maybe I’m just circling back to what works best: say it clear, say it real, then get out of the way. Thanks for always showing up, Carl.

It’s working. Keep going.

This reminds me of raising your personal standards JP

When your standards are low, you don't do important work

When you have high standards you finish even when your energy is approaching zero

JP Bristol's avatar

Andrew, that’s strong. High standards carry you when motivation taps out. A lot of important work gets finished on low energy and a decision to keep your word.

I love how you describe your morning from the alarm clock, the kittys to your feet hitting the ground. It’s also interesting how you describe Monday as a “triage” from the weekend. It can be depending upon your line of work!

JP Bristol's avatar

Ha! Mornings can be crazy around my house! Most Mondays really are triage days in my line of work. Like a box of chocolates....

My View from Inside by Odile's avatar

I enjoyed reading this. I do my best writing in the early hours of the day too. But sometimes life just happens.

Thank you so much Odile. Yes, life happens alot!

The graph feels like my life. The energy and then the slow release to the point where thinking (deeply or about anything) is not an option. But you show up. You build something that has value to you and may change your future.

JP Bristol's avatar

I know right?!? The graph is story of my life… Agree. Show up whether you feel like it or not. Key to success.
